Andrew Shannon, the founder and event organizer of the annual Feeding 5000 Thanksgiving Harvest and Community Celebration is inviting Virginia residents to attend, participate and enjoy a delicious meal in the Newport News area during the upcoming Thanksgiving Day celebrations.
New Beech Grove Baptist Church will host the event scheduled to take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
“The Feeding 5000 event began over 21 years ago as a fall event. Today it’s the largest gathering of individuals in one setting for a Thanksgiving Harvest Celebration on the peninsula,” said Shannon.
According to the event’s officials, the function, which needs no registration or reservation, will be open to the public. Attendees will be provides with to-go meals packed in boxes.
The catering, handled by Roger and Peggy Winston, owners of Queensway Soul Café, and Chic-A-Sea Restaurant, will have meals served by
celebrities, elected officials, and business together with community leaders. The day’s menu include:
* Turkey and chicken
* Mashed potatoes/ yams/corn/ rice
* Green beans
* Macaroni and cheese
* Cranberry sauce
* Stuffing/dressing/gravy
* Roll
* Assorted desserts
Feeding 5000 is hosting the event in collaboration with Pastor Dr. Willard Maxwell, Jr., of the New Beech Grove Baptist Church, PRAISE Radio WTJZ, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), Bayport Credit Union, Barry Davis Enterprises, Bowditch Ford, The Alley, Hampton
Roads Academy (HRA), Larry King Law, Zeta Phi Beta, Inc., Sheriff Karen E. Bowden and the Hampton Sheriff’s Office.
Apart from the free meal, those in attendance will also enjoy live performance by the New Generation Marching Bands senior band director,
Lionel T. Hines.
