Newport News will be hosting a “Made in Newport News” event at City Center, Oyster Point to celebrate the people, businesses, organizations and attractions as well as breakthroughs, trailblazers and creatives that bring out the diversity of the city. The event is meant to recognize the new brands and create excitement for the transformation that is taking place throughout the city.
This comes a year after the city launched a new brand and strategic message – Newport News: Built on Breakthroughs.
Local entertainers will perform on a stage in front of the five-acre outdoor fountain throughout the afternoon of Saturday, August 12 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The free and unique event will include live music and entertainment, art exhibitions, a beer garden, food, businesses, family activities, to name but a few.
“This breakthrough event gives us the opportunity to showcase local talent and tell the authentic Newport News story. We look forward to welcoming residents and guests to City Center on August 12 to honor our diverse and innovative city,” said Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones as he praised the city as the home of iconic businesses, artists, singers, athletes, creators and more!
In support of the City’s big day, Asa Jackson, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Contemporary Arts Network (CAN), has developed more activities to take place in stores along Mariner’s Row in City Center during the event and thereafter. Among the lined-up activities are:
